“The most important part of the work…was the inner journey”
The most important piece of work that I did as a part of the Willow Creek internship program was the inner journey, and I wanted to bring some of that experience to the volunteer leaders in my area.
One of the centerpieces of inner journey work is for one to understand their story and how it fits into God’s story.I felt like the Listen to My Life materials provided a framework that allowed people to do just that, so I hosted a Listen to My Life retreat in Barrington, IL for about 40 leaders.
Often times, people have a sense that they want to do this type of work, but most often times that don’t know where to start. The retreat provided a clear path for people to begin the inner journey or to continue their inner journey. Even though I had done work like this before, I found that these materials helped to provide a different lens for me to process my story too.
The retreat allowed me to personally connect to the volunteer leaders in my area, and it gave the leaders a chance to share and connect in community as well. Another gift of this retreat was that it gave each leader time and space to think, reflect, and hear from God.
