I love the Listen to My Life materials and maps. I had done the My Life Story map in a couples’ small group setting, and it was an excellent way to get to know each other better. About a year later, I was introduced to the My Life Now map at a Listen to My Life retreat with other volunteer leaders from my church. I really enjoyed working on the map exercise, because I was in a place in my life where I hadn’t paid much attention to my own life for a long time. Five years earlier, I had left a career that I loved to be a new and unprepared, stay-at-home mom.
Reflecting on the My Life Now map helped me put some clarity to my feelings. I had been questioning my current situation and what it would be like for me once my daughter started school. Specifically, the Lingering Questions section really opened my eyes to a couple of areas in my life that needed focus: How could I build more spiritual friendships? How does God want to use me, and could there be meaningful work in my life again? They were great questions to ponder that gave me energy and a feeling of direction again. I prayed over those lingering questions and asked God to help bring clarity to them, and He did just that one month later. I received an unexpected offer to join my church’s children’s ministry part time helping with our specials needs program. It was God’s perfect timing and plan.
