When my friend, Martha Comment, and I (Marsha Campbell) participated in the first Listen to My Life with women from all over the U.S., we were amazed at the personal impact shared by all. We were energized about the possibility of becoming facilitators and bringing Listen to My Life back home. We wondered what it would look like to gather women together in the same city to share in this powerful experience. In the context of community, would the impact be even more powerful with sustained relationships?
I shared with Listen to My Life creators, Sibyl, Sharon & Rebecca -This is not Rocket science! Really-- the materials and format are strategically and creatively set up to empower each group experience. Exhorting women to get off their “care for everyone else treadmill” to embrace the luxury of resting and reflecting is the foremost challenge. I believe facilitating a Listen to My Life group is less about leading and more about listening. Creating a safe place where women can learn to slow down and give themselves permission to really listen to the lives of others and of themselves is nothing short of life-changing. Discovering the distinguishing threads of God, masterfully hand weaving within the tapestry of our lives and others, allows us to see that we indeed are fearfully and wonderfully made in His image. We are his precious daughters designed to make a difference; we are blessed to be a blessing to others. We learn to be still and know … and hear…and be…and do---Life, more intentionally and abundantly in this context of relational community. We are made for relationship—girls just wanna’ have fun together. What’s not to love about that?! So we decided to dive in and just do it!
Martha and I gathered our first couple of groups through friends and word of mouth. We chose a small group format that met for 10 weeks in 2 hour sessions. Along with that we enjoyed three meals together, sharing and celebrating with each other. We even had an evening on a Pontoon boat and christened ourselves with glittering dollar store tiaras signifying our status as Pontoon Princesses! One of our Pontoon Princesses shares that Listen to My Life gave her confirmation to a Pastoral calling. Consequently, our next group is being launched from the church of our newly installed Pontoon Princess Pastor (also a new co-facilitator of Listen to My Life)!
We hope to continue to connect all group participants in a large gathering once or twice a year for sharing, celebrating and serving together.
We continue to be amazed at how God has brought women together for such a purpose of personal revelation and relational investment. Several of our women have shared that the Listen to My Life experience for them was totally life-changing…for them, it was like the scales had fallen off of their eyes, and they could see things they had been fully blind to before. One woman shared that she didn’t realize how exhausted she had been all these years…she felt freed and unburdened of the weight of years of unprocessed hurt and fear. We are amazed at the joy of sharing laughter and tears together, and the healing and wholeness that transpires as we travel together this soul terrain. So, are you ready for a road trip? We are always looking for fellow travelers…Join the journey—your heart will never be the same!
