The Psalmist wrote, “Thou has searched me and known me…Thou didst weave me in my mother’s womb.” (from Psalm 139). From the moment of our conception God’s presence has never not been with us, yet is it not within our human nature to ask ourselves, “is God really there”, and if He is does He really love me? Sue’s mission is to offer a safe and sacred space for individuals to review, process and observe their story as together they listen for what God might be whispering about His intimate personal presence and love for them.
Working from her home office, Sue serves her clients as a Spiritual Director and Life Coach. She listens – with one ear to God and the other to the individual – always encouraging a recognition of where God can be found throughout the spiritual pilgrimage. Her focus is on helping one grow closer to God. With God as the Director Sue helps people listen to and respond to God through conversation, prayer and the practice of various spiritual practices.
Sue has actively volunteered at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, IL in various capacities within the Pastoral Care department including serving as a volunteer Pastor on Call, being a small group leader in Community Care’s Monday Night Life support community and partnering with a professional counselor to serve on Pastoral Care’s Marital Response Team. Other areas of ministry within Willow have also included nine years as a women’s small group leader, a couples small group leader, on the Management Team of Willow’s Spiritual Mentoring Ministry, and a host home on the Global Hospitality Team which hosts church leaders from around the world who come to Willow for conferences sponsored through the Willow Creek Association.
Sue studied music at Illinois State University. While raising her four children she taught piano for fourteen years. Before her children were born, she was a licensed real estate broker and sold real estate while her husband finished college. Sue is an avid reader and enjoys being a self-learner. She is well-read in the fields of Pastoral Care, Lay Counseling, Psychology, Spirituality and Spiritual Direction. Sue is certified in several counseling disciplines by The American Association of Christian Counselors and has been a member in good standing since 2004.
Sue and her husband Jac were married in 1975. They have three daughters and a son and are the proud grandparents to three granddaughters. During the first seventeen years of married life her husband’s military career often moved them around the country and even to Europe. They lived in Texas, Indiana, Pennsylvania, The Netherlands and Germany. While living in Europe she became fluent in Dutch and German which allowed her greater access to her neighbors and their spiritual needs.
Sue’s hobbies include photography, reading and a daily walk through a wooded area near their home, regardless of the harshness of the Chicago weather.
