That question stopped me in my tracks when I heard it.
Really, what do I have that does not come from the hand of God? What am I assuming came to me because of my own efforts? Did God not give me the ability to apply my efforts toward things of my choosing?
I find these to be interesting questions that mess with my mistaken self-sufficiency, my ego, and my lack of contentedness.
Maybe you’d like to reply with a short list of what you’re grateful for today. Post it as a reply here and also to your Facebook page, if you have one. What if we all got in the habit of doing so, as I so often see a few of my friends doing?
“Hallelujah! I give thanks to God with everything I’ve got— Wherever good people gather, and in the congregation. God’s works are so great, worth a lifetime of study—endless enjoyment! Splendor and beauty mark his craft; His generosity never gives out. His miracles are his memorial— this God of Grace, this God of Love.” Psalm 111:1
Father, thank you for ALL that you have given me. Help me to find ways to express my gratitude each day for the ordinary and the extraordinary. Grow my gratitude muscles in ways that surprise me and delight you each day.
