Soon another Feast came around and Jesus was back in Jerusalem. Near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem there was a pool, in Hebrew called Bethesda, with five alcoves. Hundreds of sick people—blind, crippled, paralyzed—were in these alcoves. One man had been an invalid there for 38 years. When Jesus saw him stretched out by the pool and knew how long he had been there, he said, “Do you want to get well?”
John 5:6 MSG
Questions for Reflection:
- Why do you think Jesus asked the man if he wanted to get well? How would you answer if Jesus asked you this same question?
- How might the man’s life change if he were healed? How do you think the 38 years of waiting could have shaped his answer to Jesus?
- Is there anything in your life you have waited a long time for the Lord to heal? How do you keep your faith and hope alive in the meantime?
Jehovah-Rapha, you are our Lord and Healer. You see us in the big picture of our lives and know exactly what kind of healing we need before we even ask. Your love extends beyond our vision, to the purpose you have for our lives. We ask for faith to trust your healing hand on us as we seek to become whole in you.
